Before the pandemic, we operated an academy of music at Cinco de Mayo school in San Miguel. This had to close down when Covid hit but we restarted the Academy at the Biblioteca Publica in 2024, and classes are ongoing. We teach 8 to 14-year-olds the basics of music and the individual instrument they wish to play, such as violin, viola, flute and clarinet. Classes are held all day on Saturdays for 40 weeks of the year and our first year enrolment was 20 students. We aim to expand this to at least double that number over the next couple of years. The students pay no fees for the classes and we provide all the special child-sized instruments to them without cost. The teachers are paid and we rent space from the Biblioteca. We hope that in a few years we will be able to re-establish the Childrens’ Orchestra we had previously at Cinco de Mayo school with these young students.
In March of 2026 we will be hosting a Chill out with Cellos Benefit concert for the Academy. The Benefit is in a private home in Los Frailes with Prosecco and sustancial canapés in the garden, followed by the concert, and an ice cream social in the house, with more Prosecco. Tickets can be purchased on the Tickets page of our website.
